in waiting,
i was physically present but focused on all that could go wrong
and in having so little control
i felt, in my body, the panic of
knowing so few of the facts -
time i spent in waiting
for you -
and even before the waiting
i anticipated -
i made sure that my plans were flexible
my nerves were so taut
i was malleable
to you
i was abiding
because i needed so much to see you -
to spend time with the person
who i was in love with
and you dared to think
i would do that forever
that i would not tire of waiting -
tire of words -
and messages that could so quickly be deleted
love makes fools of us all.
