Peace or Whirlwind

will I break my neck
from random urges?

flatten my nose
by eating shrimp?

mid-morning
hangs around here for years
but at least
it’s calm by the pond

will the wall collapse
and crack my skull?

will I tear my larynx
if I clear my throat?

I toss my line in
catch somebody’s abandoned knitting
reel it in
will have it for supper

will I lose my head
in a dash out of the rain
or break a bone tinkling?

and what about forgiveness?
will it demand my head
on the chopping block?

away from people
I quietly disappear
up my own rear end

repeat this ten times

dwarfed by oaks
in a tryst with passing current
everything on the menu
is calm to a fault
