An Effigy on Memory

Photo by Roman Kraft on Unsplash
I am an effigy to the forgotten notes
left behind by forgotten brains
too quiet to write the words
they so desperately want to say.

I am a bird flying high into the maw of a mountain.

I am books
hammered out of the fire
we all find within us.

I am the eye, the foot, the viscera, the guts
found stitched behind old television sets
in forgotten homes
where our childhood meets death like a gorey dancer.

I am a cup half-full of cold, hard evidence.
